Measure S – San Carlos

David, It would be great if you can post this on your blog. -Amy Anderson.

What is Measure S?

  • Provides a stable and reliable source of funding for programs which are currently at risk of being cut.
  • Renews current parcel tax, which will expire in 2011, and increase it by $75 (less than $7 per month).
  • Requires a super majority, or 2/3 to pass.
  • Increases the funds generated for the SCSD from $1M to $1.75M annually, with an annual inflation increase each year.
  • Measure S will continue early reading and literacy programs; maintain small class sizes, retain our quality teachers and staff, and support teaching of reading, writing science and math.
  • This measure is a perpetual tax.
  • Measure S offers an exemption for those 65 and older.

Why vote Yes on Measure S?

  • San Carlos is the 3rd worst funded elementary district in San Mateo County; our current parcel tax is only $2 more per year than East Palo Alto’s.
  • The District has already started to cut spending. Without Measure S it will have to make big cuts to programs and positions that the community has worked long and hard to implement.
  • Superintendent Steve Mitrovich explained recently that because of the Lehman bankruptcy, the San Carlos School District may be out $630,000.
  • The SCEF will have to almost triple the money raised to keep all of the programs it funds in place if Measure S fails.
  • This year the SCSD will deficit spend about $0.5M even if Measure S passes.

Measure S has the endorsement of every PTA in San Carlos and the San Carlos Educational Foundation.

Vote “Yes” on Measure S and make a donation to the San Carlos Educational Foundation. Doing these two things will allow the district to continue providing the current quality of education our kids enjoy in San Carlos.

Thank you for posting this. San Carlos really needs this Measure to pass to fund valuable programs for our students. The incredible schools in San Carlos is what sets the city apart from other areas.

Thanks for the comment. We had several volunteers over at the office last night using the phones and getting the word out.
